Credit Reporting Agency

There are three main consumer credit reporting agencies in the country. They are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Equifax is the largest agency. Each agency collects, maintains and disseminates consumer credit files, which are documents that chronicle consumer credit histories. They are also called credit reports.

Each credit agency has its own credit file. The credit files may differ, depending on how creditors and lenders report their data. If they report to all three agencies, then the information will show up in all three credit reports. If not, then it'll show up with the agency they reported to.

From each credit reporting agency's credit file, a consumer credit score is calculated. Each agency also has its own credit score. This is because each credit agency has its own way of calculating its score.
